Saving The World One Stitch At A Time

Me: “What are you doing?”
Timothy: “Fixing the hole in my pocket.”
Me: “(I’m horrified) with a stapler?!”
The day I saw my husband stapling the hole in his pants pocket was a huge let down to my ego. I mean is that even allowed? Can he staple his pants pockets and be married to me at the same time?
If you’re reading these articles that must mean you are interested in sewing, and that’s a win for me and all of the people stapling their pants’ pockets. I have the perfect project for your first sewing adventure.
I remember as a little girl watching ladies pull out their wallets, and each one was different. It was fascinating to see a wallet that matched both their purses and their personalities.
I felt like a real grown up the day I opened my first checking account; I couldn’t wait to put my checkbook in my wallet that matched my purse. I still love my checkbook cover. I am resisting the age of plastic … maybe it is age, maybe it is habit, or maybe it is because I can’t keep up with my card. I have lost more things than anyone should ever know about.
This is a super easy project and only takes a few minutes to create. It only has straight stitches and is good practice for a beginner. This is also a great way to use up all of that scrap fabric you have laying around.

I write the patterns, my niece sews the projects for the photos, and, if she can understand the pattern, I am convinced you can too. If she has trouble, I re-write until it makes sense to her. As she was sewing the pattern, she said, “Tam, I need a checkbook now.” That’s when it occurred to me that this may not be the gift for the teenager in your life; but, I promise your mother would love for you to make her one.
Just think … some little girl somewhere is fascinated by your brightly colored checkbook cover and can’t wait until the day she grows up and can have one of her very own too.
Until next time…
Tami
