Playroom Patchwork #1 - Journey of a Quilt
New Tutorial: Playroom Patchwork Quilt 🧸
Happy National Quilting Month! To celebrate, I am starting a new "Journey of a Quilt" series featuring my very own Little Ladies fabric collection. This is the first quilt I've made using my own fabric line, and I am so excited to see how all these combinations look together.
For this project, we are using the Playroom Patchwork pattern. It is a fantastic skill-builder for beginners because it relies on simple straight stitches and repetitive techniques that help you get comfortable behind the machine.

Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Cut Your Blocks: Start by cutting 80 blocks to 5" x 5". The final quilt will be eight blocks across and ten rows down [00:19].
2. The Layout Strategy: I chose to alternate a "white-ish" print with a darker or more colorful print for every other block to spread the colors throughout the quilt [01:12].
3. Chain Piecing: To save time, I recommend "chain piecing." Sew two blocks together, skip a tiny space, and feed the next set through without cutting the thread in between [02:08].
4. Build Your Rows: I sew my blocks into sets of two, then four, and finally into rows of eight [01:04].
5. The Clip Trick: To keep your rows from getting turned around, place a clip on the "top" side of each row. This ensures your design stays exactly how you planned it when you're ready to sew the rows together [04:44].
6. Pressing: I use a wool mat and a heat-resistant pad to iron the rows flat. While I don't worry about nesting seams or pressing them open, getting the blocks reasonably flat makes the final assembly much easier [06:43].
