Pillowcase Dress

I teach sewing to little girls, and they are the funniest humans on the planet. They show up for their sewing classes in dresses and bows. They sometimes carry their favorite stuffed animal or new purse. They have braided hair or pig tails and are full of humor and wisdom. I could write a book on the things they say to me and to each other.

Little girl 1: “talking about a boy”

Little girl 2: “OK, that’s enough, can we talk about sewing instead?”

Me: “big smile”

Our parents always told us to enjoy them when they’re little, because they won’t be little long. There is no way to really know what that means until the little one is yours, and they so quickly become not-so-little.

While they are little, and you still get to decide what they wear, here is your project. This dress is a fast and easy sew project that you can create for any holiday or just because. Plus, after they outgrow the dress they can wear it with leggings or as a top so you get season after season out of them. Add a long sleeve under it, and it is winter ready.

Download and print the free pillowcase dress pattern at www.hometownquiltcompany.com.

This includes the pattern you will need and instructions for making it larger as they grow.

My 17 year old child: “If you could travel anywhere in time, where would you want to go?”

Me: “That’s easy, back to re-live your whole life again.”

Looking at sweet Jennie in this dress reminds me just how fast time flies. She will be a year old soon, then 5, then 15, and then leaving for college. Don’t cry Momma, just dress them cute while you can.

Until next time…

Tami
