Pecan Pie Quilt Block
Hello again, my wonderful sewing family! I am just so tickled to show you how to make this Pecan Pie quilt block. We are using my "Little Ladies" fabric for this project, and I am making 12 blocks in total. The best part is that each block uses a different combination of prints from the collection, so when they all come together, the quilt is just bursting with color! 🌈 This is a classic 9-patch style block that is perfect for beginners.
Step-by-Step: Crafting Your Pecan Pie Block
-
[01:25] Step 1: Cut Your Squares. For an 18-inch finished block, you will need nine squares cut at 6.5" x 6.5". If you want a different size, you can just adjust your square size accordingly!
-
[02:04] Step 2: Lay It Out. I like to lay my blocks out first to make sure I love the color combination. For this one, I’m mixing some of those sweet purples, yellows, and the ladybug prints.
-
[02:43] Step 3: Basic Patchwork. Place your first two squares pretty-side to pretty-side. Sew down the side with a straight stitch and a quarter-inch seam.
-
[02:56] Step 4: Grandma’s Rule! Always remember to backstitch when you start and when you stop—just like my grandma always said! It makes sure your hard work doesn't come undone. 👵
-
[05:03] Step 5: The Ironing Situation. I highly recommend ironing your rows before joining them. It makes you look like you really know what you're doing! I use my heat-resistant pad, wool mat, and Oliso mini pro 3 iron to keep everything crisp and flat [05:22].
-
[06:07] Step 6: Join the Rows. Sew your rows together with a quarter-inch seam. Make sure your seams meet! If they are a little off, just "pinch, pleat, or pull" to make them line up [06:12].
Let’s Fill the World with Color! 🌟
I’m going to go finish my other 11 blocks now, and I can't wait to see yours! It is so fun to see how the same pattern looks so different just by swapping around the fabrics.
