Oven Towel Tutorial

I am so excited to show you this next project because it is just so practical and adorable. Today we are making hanging oven towels! These are such a fantastic gift idea—whether it's for teachers, a housewarming, or even if you're getting a head start on your handmade Christmas list for 2026. 🎄✨

The best part? One standard hand towel actually makes two hanging towels, so it’s super budget-friendly and a great way to use up some of your favorite fabric scraps.

Step-by-Step: Crafting Your Hanging Towel

  • [00:10] Prep Your Towel: Cut one hand towel in half. Set one half aside for your next gift!

  • [01:00] Sew the Hanging Loop: Take your two skinny fabric strips (3" x 7") and sew down both long sides. Turn it right-side out and top-stitch to keep it flat [02:09]. This is the strap that will hold the towel on your oven handle.

  • [03:09] The Dental Floss Trick! 🦷 This is a total game changer! Lay a piece of dental floss along the raw edge of your towel and zigzag stitch right over it. Then, just pull the floss to gather the towel perfectly. No more fussy pleating! [04:08]

  • [04:20] The "Pretty Sandwich": Layer your 7" x 8" fabric pieces with the strap and the gathered towel tucked inside. Pin it all together carefully so you don't sew the bulk of the towel into your side seams.

  • [05:07] Sewing it Together: Sew all the way around, but make sure to leave a hole about 2.5 inches wide on one of the straight sides (not the corner!) so you can turn it right-side out [05:50].

  • [06:37] The Finishing Touch: After turning it right-side out and ironing it flat, top-stitch all the way around the fabric topper. This closes your hole and makes the whole project look professional and crisp!
