Children's Cross Back Apron

Today we are making a child’s cross-back apron that is just perfect for the "little loves" in your life! I have four-year-old twins, so I made these in a size 4T, but you can always lengthen the straps to make the fit just right. 💖 This apron is so comfortable because there are no ties to worry about! It just slips right over their heads, making it "easy peasy" for playtime or helping out in the kitchen.

Simple Steps for the Perfect Fit

  • Download and Cut: Start by grabbing the pattern from my website. You will cut your front and back pieces on the fold. This means you fold your fabric in half, lay the pattern edge on that fold, and when you open it up, you have a perfectly symmetrical piece!

  • Sew the "U" Shapes: Place your fabrics pretty sides together. You are going to sew all the way around the bottom, under the arms, and around the neck. Do not sew the tops of the straps yet! Just leave those open for now.

  • Leave a Hole: Don’t forget to leave a small opening for turning! I like to leave mine at the bottom of the apron. I even use a marker to remind myself so I don't sew it shut by mistake. 👵

  • Turn and Press: Turn your apron right side out. You might need a chopstick or a dowel rod to help push those small strap corners out. Once it is turned, give it a good press with your iron.

  • Connect the Straps: Criss-cross your back straps and tuck them into the front straps. Sew forward and backward a few times to give them extra strength for when the kids are running around!

  • The Final Touch: I always say that top stitching and ironing make your work look so much better. It only takes a few extra minutes, and you will be so glad you did it! 🧼✨
