Baby Blocks Quilt Tutorial pt.1
I am so excited to start on our Baby Blocks Quilt Star tutorial! Thanks to a fabulous free pattern from Missouri Star, we’re taking this classic block design and putting our own cozy spin on it by turning it into a gorgeous rag quilt. I’ll show you my favorite trick for simplifying the center by sewing 2.5-inch strips together, ironing them, cutting them into strips again, and simply turning them to get that intricate block look without the headache of sewing tiny squares together!
In this video, I walk you through the entire process—from piecing your center blocks and sewing your half-square triangle points to quilting your fabric-and-flannel sandwiches. We will sew a simple “X” across the squares to hold our top, flannel, and backing together before we assemble our star, ensuring it stays beautifully flat and doesn't "balloon." As we put our block together, I’ll remind you not to worry too much about perfectly nested seams unless you want to, but always remember to backstitch when you start and stop, because grandma said so!
