Adventure Sling Tutorial - Part 1
Hello, my wonderful sewing friends! I’ve been wanting to make a bag out of my "Little Ladies" fabric, and I finally found the perfect one: the Adventure Sling Bag from Missouri Star Quilt Company! 🧵💖
Step-by-Step: The Adventure Sling Journey
-
[00:25] Prep Your Panels: The pattern calls for 8x6 exterior pieces. I used 2.5-inch strips of my "Little Ladies" fabric to create a patchwork look for the front and back. It gives it so much personality!
-
[01:31] Sewing Your Rows: Remember to sew pretty-sides together with a quarter-inch seam and backstitch at the start and stop.
-
[04:45] Creating the Interior Pocket: We made a simple pocket for the inside. Top-stitch about half an inch from the fold to give it a nice, finished look [04:58].
-
[05:50] The Zipper: Zippers aren't scary, I promise! I used my zipper foot [06:19] to get nice and close. The secret is making a "zipper sandwich" with your exterior fabric, the zipper, and your lining [08:18].
-
[12:24] Adding Batting & Quilting: To give the bag some structure, I added a scrap of batting to the front panel and quilted along my seams.
-
[15:10] Assembling the Gusset: The gusset is what goes around the outside of the bag. We made another "sandwich" with the zipper, exterior fabric, and lining to create the loop [18:28].
-
[21:44] A Pro Tip on Corners: I learned this the hard way mid-bag—curve your corners! The gusset fits much better if you round off those edges before sewing it all together [22:09].
I am so proud of how this turned out! If you make one, please tag me on Facebook or Instagram so I can celebrate with you!
