Holidays Kitchens And Aprons

At our dinner table each night we always tell the best and worst parts of our day. The rule is you have to have both a best and worst. The worst can be that your favorite pair of pants was dirty, but you must have one. It is often easy to recall the best part of our day, but more times than not we have to dig deep to find the worst. Isn’t it funny how many times we complain about things that we really aren’t even genuinely complaining about? Things that don’t matter and at the end of the day we can’t even remember.

I love this season of thankfulness that reminds us what is really important.

The kitchen is said to be the heart of the home. That’s where we can always find Mom cooking or cleaning up after a meal. Preparing lunches for the week or making the grocery list. All of my holiday memories revolve around the kitchen. Ladies try to fit everything in the oven or on the stove at the same time. There never seemed to be enough room to cook everything or fit everyone in the house. I remember the aprons my mother and grandmother wore, and they are as much a part of my holiday memories as the turkey and ham.

I have to admit I’m not much of a chef. I can make an amazing sandwich or an awesome bowl of cereal, but my culinary skills definitely need improving. I make a few things my family asks for, but my teenage son does most of the cooking. He loves it, and we love that he loves it.  It’s a win, win for our family. I have a few aprons that I have made, and one that he bought for my birthday that reads, “Burnt is the new black.” I always tell him that I am doing his future wife a favor. She will never hear him say, “That’s not how my Mom makes it.” I have cute aprons anyway, and so should you.

Merry Christmas!
Until next time…
